I think sometimes it’s better to hanker than to have. I paint found moments from real life that depict this longing. An empty chair seductively offered. An invitation to stare unhindered. An opportunity to revel in how light makes normal everyday things look ethereal and extraordinary.
Julie Murray is a developing oil painter based in Henley-on-Thames. She is self-taught, having started oil painting in 2021. Her realistic and detailed style focuses largely on interiors and found still life. She is inspired by the works of Edward Hopper, Andrew Wyeth and Donald Jurney. Julie’s work has been selected to exhibit in the 2023 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the 2024 Royal Institute of Oil Painters Annual Exhibition.
